Ever wondered what your top London musical would be if it was a dog? I know I have! Lucky for you, we have put our brains together at LSBO and compiled as list to clear things up for anyone else who has pondered upon this great question. Let us know if you agree or if your favourite musical or dog made the cut.
Hamilton – American Bulldog

We’re starting a bit on the nose here, but an American dog was the perfect fit for this quintessentially American musical. This top London musical follows the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton. It is America’s past as told by the America of today as they use rap and singing to tell the story.
American Bulldogs are known for their affectionate and protective nature not too dissimilar to the characters in Hamilton. They are high-energy dogs that require a lot of exercise and mental stimulation to stay happy and healthy. Similarly, Hamilton himself is always on the go, physically and mentally, as he constantly writes like he’s “running out of time”. What’s more, the breed is extremely headstrong which is another characteristic Hamilton shares with the breed. He fights for his country and own desires perhaps at times to the detriment of others.
Hamilton is now booking at The Victoria Palace Theatre until 28th March 2026.
Clueless – Toy Poodle

She’s got style, energy and grace. Both her wardrobe and beauty appointments probably cost more money than you’d earn in a year. This statement works for both Cher Horowitz and a toy poodle!
Not only is this dog breed a true fashionista but so is Cher the leading lady of the musical Clueless. Clueless is a movie musical, based on the 90’s film, Clueless which in turn, is based on Jane Austen’s Emma.
Set in Beverly Hills (which is also very Toy Poodle coded), Cher is a student at high school who wants to get good grades and be a good person. Just like the Toy Poodle, Cher is exceptionally talented and eager to please her family which is two of the strongest traits in the dog breed. Throughout the show, Cher strives to do good and be better all whilst being impeccably dressed.
You can get cheap tickets for Clueless, showing at The Trafalgar Theatre until 3rd January, 2026.
Six – Welsh Corgi

Six tells the untold history of the 6 wives of Henry VIII. It’s only right that these queen’s have the dog they deserve, a Corgi! The late queen Elizabeth II loved Corgi’s and owned 30 throughout the duration of her reign.
The musical was first created by a group of Cambridge University students at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2017 and has since gone on to be a global phenomenon. Six tells the untold stories of each of the wives with an 80-minute pop concert. What’s more, each queen is based on a different girl power pop star for their singing styles. The musical is now a staple in London’s West End, Broadway and internationally.
Book now to see the top London musical Six which is currently reigning at The Vaudeville Theatre until 28th June 2026.
The Devil Wears Prada – Chihuahua

Set in the world of fashion, which is run by small but mighty bosses, the Chihuahua is the obvious choice for this show. Particularly, the Chihuahua photographed who is dressed just like Anne Hathaway in the film that inspired the new movie musical.
Chihuahua’s although tiny, are known for their big dog attitude and rule the roost much like the leads in this show. Unassuming Andy gets a job for editor in chief in a high end fashion magazine and loses herself into this dog eat dog world.
The Devil Wears Prada is booking until 3rd January 2026 at The Dominion Theatre. Vanessa Williams is starring in the production until 18th October 2025.
Oliver! – Mongrel Puppies

The top London musical Oliver! is a Charles Dickens story, turned famous musical. It is set in the East End of London in the Victorian times. Following an orphaned boy Oliver as he joins a gang of pickpockets in the East End as a means to survive. These young scrappy boys who have to fight to survive are naturally the scrappy and resourceful mongrel pups! They will pull out the puppy dog eyes and use whatever skills they learn on the street to survive.
Oliver! is a real classic, feel good show which is high energy. This revival is highly reviewed in the West End and features classic songs such as “Food Glorious Food” and “Consider Yourself”.
You can secure tickets for Oliver! at The Gielgud Theatre until 29th March 2026.
Starlight Express – Italian Greyhound

Starlight Express is fast and fashionable so naturally, an Italian Greyhound. Italian Greyhounds can reach speeds of 30 mph! They may be even faster than the performers in this show. The story is about a children’s toy set which comes to life. The actors portray the trains and are on roller skates throughout the show. This makes them stream-lined and fast, just like an Italian Greyhound.
Dog influencer Tika the Iggy had many fashionable and colourful outfits that screamed Starlight Express and we chose just a handful for this blog post. Starlight Express is officially this years top London musical for costume design according to The Olivier Awards so we think Tika will approve of this connection.
See the trendy and stream-lined show for yourself at The Troubadour Theatre where Starlight Express is currently booking until 1st March 2026.
Paddington The Musical – Chow Chow

We don’t have much to go off here other than the fact that a Chow Chow looks so cute and fluffy just like the nations favourite bear!
Paddington the Musical is a brand new musical with music by Tom Fletcher from McFly. The show will open this autumn at The Savoy Theatre. Paddington The Musical is highly anticipated and tells the original story of Paddington arriving in London. Like Michael Bond’s original book, we’ll follow Paddington on his journey to find a new home after arriving from Peru.
This is set to be a top London musical in the West End and will open on 1st November at The Savoy Theatre.
The Book Of Mormon – Golden Retriever

The Book Of Mormon musical and a Golden Retriever go hand in hand. This high energy dog breed matches the unstoppable energy of the musical. Both the dog and Elder Cunningham will want to be your best friend! They will do whatever it takes to make you happy, even if that does mean make up crazy stories like Elder Cunningham.
The Book Of Mormon follows two extremely high energy Mormon missionaries on their trip to Africa. They discover lots of difficulties on the way with each other and with themselves. This comedy musical is written by the creators of South Park and has become a staple in the West End.
Secure your cheap tickets for The Book Of Mormon, playing at The Prince Edward Theatre until 4th October 2025.
The Great Gatsby Musical – Afghan Hound

Lastly, we have the new musical The Great Gatsby. The show is based on the F.Scott Fitzgerald novel of the same name and is set in prohibition America. Not only does the Afghan Hound visually resemble the flapper style dresses at the time but their characteristics are uncanny in regards to the characters in the musical. Afghan hounds are strong-willed, independent, aloof and self-confident. This is nearly exactly the same as the wealthy characters the narrator gets wrapped up with in this story.
The Great Gatsby tells the story of the mysterious and glamorous Jay Gatsby, his love affairs and riotous parties which he seems to never participate in.
The new The Great Gatsby is currently playing at The London Coliseum until 14th September 2025.
