What is Hadestown about?
Hadestown is based on Greek Mythology, Specifically, the tale of Orpheus and Eurydice. When Orpheus wife Eurydice dies, he follows her to the underworld to beg Hades to let him bring her back. Naturally, this means the king of the underworld Hades and Persephone are some of the other classic Greek character which feature in this musical.
Where did the show begin?
The show began as a concept album by Anaïs Mitchell. It was then was staged in 2006 in Vermont. The first larger scale production didnt arrive until 2016. The production was Off-Broadway and showcased many developments over the years. It then premiered at the New York Theatre Workshop. Before transferring in 2019 to the National Theatre in London for a year. Only following this did the show make it’s official Broadway Debut in the same year at the Walter Kerr Theatre.

8 Tony Awards® including Best Musical and the Grammy Award® for Best Musical Theatre Album. It has 4 Drama Desk Awards. Lastly, 1 Grammy Award and 2 WhatsOnStage Awards.

Tuesdays -Saturdays 7.30pm. The show has matinees on Thursdays & Saturdays at 2.30pm and Sundays at 3pm. Occassionally, the show performs an additional show on Sundays at 7pm
