Further Rent cast as well as an extension of the production has just been announced!
Previously, the team confirmed Broadway and Stranger Things star Gaten Matarazzo is leading the company as Mark Cohen. This marks his West End debut in the revival at the Duke of York’s Theatre
This iconic musical is written by Jonathan Larson. The story is inspired by the musical La Boheme. It is set during the AIDS crisis in the early 90s and follows a community living in New York City’s East Village. The show premiered Off-Broadway in 1996 before transferring to Broadway, where it became a defining rock musical of its era, winning the Pulitzer Prize and multiple Tony Awards. Larson never saw the greatest his musical would receive as he passed away on the shows opening night. The production is returning to the West End marking the shows 30th anniversary.
Directed by the multi-award winning director Luke Sheppard (Paddington), Rent is running at the Duke of York’s Theatre from 26th September until March 2027.
The Rent cast announced today, joining Matarazzo are Travis Ross (Cabaret, West Side Story) as Roger. Also announced is Bella Brown (Evita, Hadestown) as Mimi and Billy Nevers (Jesus Christ Superstar) as Collins. Lazy Violet is joining as Maureen with Danielle Fiamanya (& Juliet, The Crown) as Joanne. Lastly, Jeevan Braich (Starlight Express) is starring as Angel and Joaquin Pedro Valdes (Heathers, Miss Saigon) as Benny. Further casting is to be announced.
