This September, West End Theatre Updates are a plenty! With more than 25 shows opening and closing in September, we’ve listed all the shows opening and closing as well as featured shows you won’t want to miss.

September West End Theatre Shows which are closing soon

The shows which are closing this month are some of our best discounted shows! Cyrano de Bergerac, Hercules, Now You See Me Live, The Producers, The Comedy About Spies are all discounted and closing soon. Other plays closing this month include Arcadia, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Truth, Abigail’s Party and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. As for musicals, Jesus Christ Superstar, Trainspotting, Death Note, Hot Mess and I’m Every Woman are all closing too.

Now You See Me Live
London Coliseum

This magic show is based on the hit film franchise of the same name. The production brings together a stellar team of illusionists from across the glob into one unforgettable performance. Its is playing until 6th September at the London Coliseum. There are selected seats with discounts on this show which you can purchase online or in person. The discounts will show once you have added the tickets to your basket for this one.

The Producers
The Garrick Theatre

We are extremely sad to see this one go at The Garrick Theatre. The Producers hit the West End last year and was hailed as  ‘the funniest show in London’. Based on the Mel Brooks comedy, down-on-his-luck producer Max Bialystock teams up with timid accountant Leo Bloom to stage a sure-fire flop. However, their scheme backfires with thunderous applause and unstoppable laughter. Discounted tickets for this show can be purchased online and in person. Be sure to book your seats now before the show must close on 19th September.

The Comedy About Spies
The Adelphi Theatre

This award-winning comedy is the latest hit show from the team behind The Play That Goes Wrong. It’s full of slapstick comedy, witty humour and relentless laughs! The Comedy About Spies follows CIA and KGB spies who are in pursuit of a stolen top secret file. Following a clueless couple, a hapless actor and enough double agents to confuse even the sharpest operative, you’ve got a mission that’s hilariously out of control. Although you can book tickets at a discounted rate online, if you visit us in person you may be able to get an even better discount!

The Comedy About Spies plays at The Adelphi Theatre until 26th September.

I’m Every Woman – The Chaka Khan Musical
Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre

Chaka Khan has 22 albums, 25 chart-topping hits, 70 million records sold and a career spanning five decades. This ground breaking production delves into the woman behind the music-her rise to fame, her battles behind the spotlight, and her powerful journey of resilience. Naturally, the musical features some of her biggest hits including an array of Chaka’s famous friends from Joni Mitchell and Prince to Stevie Wonder. False Alarms!

Although Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and Jesus Christ Superstar are both closing this month, it isn’t the last chance to see them. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in London is famously a 2 part show. After nearly 10 years, the show is leaving this format on platform 9_^3/4. However, from October the show will reopen as a 1 part version. This is the same as you get in the states and in touring productions of this show. Also, Jesus Christ Superstar is closing at the Palladium only to reopen in October at The Theatre Royal Drury Lane. Sam Ryder is moving to Drury Lane with this one along with a star studded line up of King Herods.

September West End Theatre Shows which are opening soon

There really is a nice variety of new shows and revivals starting this September in the West End. Many of them also have some celebrities starring in them! For example, Tartuffe (remixed) stars Mark Rylance as well as The Standard of Living which features Rory Kinnear. Also, Hay Fever opens starring Richard E. Grant and Christine Baranski who is making her West End debut. The limited run of The Last Ship stars both Sting and Shaggy opening at Theatre Royal Drury Lane with Rent opening at The Duke of York’s Theatre starring Gaten Matarazzo.

Other shows opening this September include the limited return of My Son’s a Queer (But What Can You Do?) at The Apollo Theatre. Other musicals transferring this September are Into the Woods, first seen at The Bridge Theatre which is heading to The Noel Coward Theatre. This is as well as Million Dollar Quartet which is opening at The Arts at Marble Arch . Lastly, we’ll see 2 new fringe musicals opening, Franz & Marie at The Charing Cross Theatre and Deep-Heat Rivalry at The Other Palace Studio.

On the night of December 4, 1956, four musical icons walked into a recording studio in Memphis and made musical history. Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley were brought together by pure chance for a jam session which would go on to shape the trajectory of rock ‘n’ roll music globally. Million Dollar Quartet features the hit songs Blue Suede Shoes, Fever, Walk The Line, Hound Dog, Great Balls of Fire, and many more.

Hay Fever
The Wyndham’s Theatre

This Noel Coward classic sees Emmy, two-time Tony, Screen Actors Guild and Drama Desk winner Christine Baranski making her West End debut! She will the iconic Judith Bliss, alongside stage and screen legend Richard E. Grant in a stinging new production of Noël Coward’s irresistible comedy. The story follows Judith who just last year, retired from her life-on-stage. Already, she misses the applause. Idling away at their country home, the rest of the family are too self-involved to be a good audience. So, Judith invites a young fan as her guest for the weekend. But unbeknownst to her, each of the Blisses have a guest of their own arriving at the very same time. Completely unsuited to hosting and allergic to compromise, the house quickly erupts into a chaos of parlour games, put-downs and unrequested encores.

Hay Fever opens at The Wyndham’s Theatre on 22nd September.

Into The Woods
Noel Coward Theatre

Following it’s wildly successful run at The Bridge Theatre, Into The Woods heads to the West End this September. The classic Sondheim musical begs the question, what happens after happily ever after? Our characters? The Baker and his wife. A Witch with a curse. A boy and his cow. A girl in a red cloak. A maiden with long flowing hair. A servant covered in cinders. All who journey deep into the dark woods. As the adventure unfolds and paths entwine, wishes are made, slippers are lost, beanstalks take flight and new friendships are forged – revealing that life beyond ‘Happily ever after’ can still be full of magic, even when there’s darkness.

Into The Woods opens at the Noel Coward Theatre on 22nd September.

Duke of York’s Theatre
