The Lion King is set in the majestic Serengeti Plains. It is about a brave Lion Cub called Simba. When his evil uncle Scar banishes Simba from his own kingdom, Simba meets a hilarious meerkat named Timon and his warthog pal, Pumba. Soon after, Simba adopts his carefree lifestyle of “Hakuna Matata,” until he realizes his true identity and returns to claim his throne from his evil uncle. The Story is loosely based on Shakespeare’s Hamlet which was originally adapted into a Disney animation before it was in turn, adapted for stage.
The Lion King opened in London back in 1999. It transferred to London following a run on Broadway in 1997 and prior to that, its debut in Minneapolis earlier that same year. Interestingly, the longest-serving cast members are in their 16th year of performances in this production. They are George Asprey and Shaun Escoffery who play Scar and Mufasa respectively.
Like all West End shows, The Lion King plays 8 shows a week. The evening shows begin at 7.30pm Tuesday – Saturday. The matinee shows are at 2.30pm on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. These dates can vary slightly around public and bank holidays.
Stephenson Ardern-Sodje (Hamilton) is currently playing Simba until 28 September 2025. After this, Hope Maine (Disney’s Hercules) will take over the role until the new year. Pierre van Heerden plays Pumbaa alongside Alan McHale as Timon. George Asprey plays Scar with Shaun Escoffery as Mufasa, Thenjiwe Nofemele as Rafiki and Gary Jordan as Zazu. Book your cheap tickets with Leicester Square Box Office in advance for the best prices. Typically, the prices increase over weekends and school holidays. As this show is very popular with families, it is also more expensive on the matinee performances. Try to book the show Tuesday-Thursday in the evenings and outside of school holidays where you can.
The Lion King is a great first show for many families and appeals to audiences of all ages. However, there is still an age restriction meaning children under the age of 3 (including babies in arms) will not be admitted into the theatre. Children over 3 can be admitted into the theatre but the theatre recommends the show is appropriate for ages 6+. Additionally, people aged 16 or under must be accompanied by and sat next to an adult for the show.
How long is the show?
The show is approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes including an interval.
When should I arrive to the theatre?
For any show, we recommend patrons arrive 45-30 minutes prior to the performance starting. This allows plenty of time to pass the venue’s security checks, to find your seat and use the facilities before the show begins.
Generally speaking, the price of your ticket reflects the quality of the view. That being said, there are many different factors at play. For example, if you are not particularly tall, the upper circle’s first few rows can be a great choice as they are cheaper and you have fewer people in front of you even though you are in the top level. If, however, you can spend a bit more and are perhaps going to the theatre for a special occasion or even the first time, sitting in the front half of the stalls for this production is a truly unforgettable experience. That being said it is only the opening number in which sitting in the stalls truly elevates your experience so don’t let that deter you from booking the cheaper seats if needs be.
What should I wear?
The theatre doesn’t have a dress code. Whatever you wear should be comfortable and appropriate for the occasion.
The best way to get a discount is by making a group booking. To enquire about making a group booking contact us here and let us know what date you would like to attend, how many people there are and what particular group you are. The group must be 9 or more people and is only valid on select, weekday performances.
How can I get to The Lion King London?
From Leicester Square Box Office, The Lyceum Theatre is only a 10 minute walk away. If you’re headed via the tube the closest station is Covent Garden which is on the Piccadilly line. The second closes station is Charing Cross which is connected by both tube and national rail services. There are also plenty of buses which can can you close to the venue. There is a Q-Park nearby for those of you who wish to drive however you need to book that in advance and remember you may have to pay the congestion charge as well as potentially a ULEZ charge.
We hope that’s answered all your questions on everything you need to know about going to watch The Lion King in London.
The show is currently playing at The Lyceum Theatre and is booking until 29th March 2026
The West End Evita Cast Album has been confirmed! This comes after much speculation online. Although the album is confirmed, its release date is still to be announced.
The album has already been recorded. The recording is live from a performance at the London Palladium. The new Evita cast album is a 10-track recording. It will be available digitally, on a white and blue marble vinyl and CD.
You can hear Rachel Zegler singing as the leading lady. Also on this album is Diego Andres Rodriguez as Che and James Olivas as Juan Perón. As well as Aaron Lee Lambert as Agustín Magaldi and Bella Brown as The Mistress.
This groundbreaking production of Evita is the latest from visionary director Jamie Lloyd. His combination of live recording and live theatre to elevate his productions has become a trade mark of his. He also brought the theatre to the people in this production as Zegler sings Don’t Cry For Me Argentina to the street below. This brought theatre to the common people, just like the true spirit of the musical.
The songs included in the new Evita Cast Recording are Oh What A Circus, Buenos Aires, I’d be Surprisingly Good for You, Another Suitcase in Another Hall, A New Argentina, Don’t Cry For Me Argentina, High Flying Adored, Rainbow High, And The Money Kept Rollin In (And Out) and You Must Love Me.
Evita closes tomorrow at The London Palladium. Rachel Zegler is staying in the theatre for an extra day in her first ever solo concert. The evening performance sold out just 30 minutes after it went live!
We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for when we can buy our own cast recording of this production.

Here’s all your favourite West End Shows as Cocktails. Got a night out on the West End planned? Why not use this guide to pair your drinks and entertainment seamlessly!
Many of the West End bars offer cocktails at the venue so be sure you arrive nice and early to get those drinks in – maybe even get ahead of the game and pre-order your interval drinks! Some of these cocktails are niche but luckily, many of these shows are near Soho which is the vibrant heart of London’s nightlife which offers a great selection of bars, pubs and clubs.
Here’s your comprehensive list of 10 West End Shows if they were cocktails:
This cocktail is the epitome of class, just like the infamous, Jay Gatsby. The Great Gatsby Musical is based on the F.Scott Fitzgerald novel which was also turned into a hit film starring Leonardo DiCaprio. It focuses in on the American upper classes in 1920s America. The elusive Jay Gatsby hosts many of the society’s swanky parties and this classy cocktail would definitely be one he would serve. The combination of Champagne and Cognac screams money. The simple get effects garnish is exactly the kind of elegance expected from attending one of Gatsby’s legendary parties.
Garnish: Orange slice, Glace Cherries and an umbrella!
Need we say more? We know that our girl Donna had her fair share of these cocktails which lead to the antics that play out on the West End 8 shows a week. This cocktail is fun and summery which makes it perfect for this show set in Greece! Although the umbrella isn’t compulsory for this drink, it does make it a lot more fun, and give it an even stronger Mamma Mia beach vibe!
This cocktail is the perfect combination of the bourgeois (champagne) meeting the paupers (gin). Champagne has classically been to drink of the upper class with gib being a cheap drink for commoners. Les Miserables is set in the French Revolution where the common man alongside wealthy students fought to overthrow the aristocracy. Therefore the French 75 is the perfect represntation. This cocktail is also a contemporary classic in musical theatre just like the cocktail itself!
This may be a bit on the nose but hear us out! Although the drink is not names after her, Catherine of Aragons daughter Mary later became known as Bloody Mary. Mary would have known all of Henrys 6 wives who the hit musical is about as she was the first born child of his. Mary took the throne despite many royal advisors wishes. She gained the name Bloody Mary due to her persucution of protestants in an attempt to restore Britian to becoming a Catholic Country. It was her father who made Britain Protestant in order to divorce her mother.
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is a multi-Olivier Award winning show. It is also one of two current West End shows which are adaptations of an F. Scott Fitzgerald. The story is about a man who is born old and ages backwards. This adaptation is set in a Cornish fishing village and therefore the ingredients reflect the tipple of choice for many a salty sea dog! The name of the cocktail also brings imagery to mind of a storm off the coast of a fishing village which was too poetic to miss!
The Devil Wears Prada is set in a high end fashion magazine in New York so a Manhattan was the natural choice of cocktail for this show. The red vermouth and red cherry are a great nod to the iconic branding on the poster for the show. The international bartenders association labels this cocktail in the “unforgettable” category. Therefore it would be a classic cocktail we could imagine Miranda Priestly sipping on at a glamorous fashion gala.
This musical tells an old classic story with a modern twist! Just like this classic cocktail which literally contains an orange twist. Hamilton is the all American musical on the West End and likewise, this cocktail has an all-American base with Bourbon as the base spirit. Like the above cocktail, we can imagine Alexander Hamilton and the other founding fathers drinking this in the room where it happens whilst discussing their ideas of a free America.
You may have noticed something very interesting about the above ingredients… There’s no alcohol. And why would there be? Mormons don’t drink silly! So naturally, we had to give them a mocktail for this blog. A Shirley Temple is the original ‘mocktail’ which we hope gets the Mormon seal of approval.
A Tequila Sunrise is a beautiful cocktail which represents a sunrise. The opening number for the musical and indeed the Disney animated movie is The Circle of Life. The song takes place over a sunrise over the beautiful Serengeti plains of Africa. The colours match the imagery created from both the Lion King film and musical. Lastly, it is a classic holiday cocktail and makes you feel like you’re in a hot country when you drink it.
It’s chilly, salty and refreshing, just like the North Atlantic! Titanique is a spoof musical of the film Titanic for which Celine Dion provided the soundtrack for. This award winning comedy naturally features all Celine Dion songs as she tells us all what really happened that fateful night.
This morning, Rachel Zegler announced a solo concert at The London Palladium. After just 30 minutes the show sold out and so they added on an additional matinee performance! After that, just a few hours later that performance has also sold out.
This will be the first ever Rachel Zegler concert. It is taking place at The London Palladium which has been her home for this summer. She is currently still there playing the lead role of Evita, Eva Peron. Although tickets to this solo concert is sold out, there are still limited tickets available before the show closes on 4th September. The now sold-out concert will take place at the Palladium on 5th September. That’s just a1 day after the closing performance of Evita.
Zegler was catapulted into fame following her incredible portrayal of Maria the 2021 film adaptation of West Side Story which was directed by Steven Spielberg. Most recently she starred in Disney’s Live Action Snow White and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. That film is a prequel to the hit Hunger Games films which is are currently being adapted for stage. You can read more about that here.
The Rachel Zegler solo concert will include an evening of music spanning her carreer thus far. From Sondheim to Lloyd Webber to her YouTube covers. Lambert Jackson Productions is producing the concert and will have musical direction and arrangements by Adam Hoskins.
You may have missed out on tickets this time but you can still book last minute tickets here to catch Rachel Zegler in Evita. Alternatively, head to the Palladium an hour and a half after the show starts and you can catch one of the most famous songs of the production performed from the balcony of the venue to the street below.

Even though these theatres are super close to Leicester Square you always want to arrive half an hour before your show starts.
Why do you need to arrive 30 minutes before London shows start?
Because performances start at the time on your ticket, if you are late you won’t be admitted into the theatre until a suitable point – if at all! This also allows enough time to have your tickets scanned and bags checked. Not to mention, enough time to scope out the bar and merchandise!
Here’s some further information on the theatres close to Leicester Square:
Magic Mike Live was made and directed by Channing Tatum himself. It is a 90-minute spectacle. It features extremely talented guys performing equally impressive dances. Born With Teeth is the hit new play written by Liz Duffy Adams and produced by the RSC. The show opened just last week and plays until 3rd November 2025. Netflix Stars Ncuti Gatwa and Edward Bluemel play Christopher Marlowe and William Shakespeare respectively. This play imagines these literary greats being forced to work together in a creative union. When they meet in a back room of a pub, they sharpen their pens and let their genius fly!
The Producers is the first, ever major London revival of the Mel Brooks musical adaptation of the cult classic film of the same. Not only is this one of the theatres close to Leicester Square but it is also a show which began as a Fringe Production! You can read further about that here. The Mousetrap is the classic Agatha Christie murder mystery play. What’s more, it is the longest running show in the West End as it is in it’s 73rd year of running. The play is also said to be the best kept secret in the West End as audiences are asked not to reveal the identity of the murderer and it seems they have honoured that to this day.
This beautiful home-grown British musical is right next door to the above. It is also the proud owner of multiple Olivier Awards. It is based on the hit short story by F.Scott Fitzgerald about a man who is born old and ages backwards. This adaptation is set in a Cornish Fishing Village and has captured the hearts of all who go to watch it.

The second production which will play at the venue from 11th September until 6th December is The Weir. The Weir is an award winning playing which also stars a famous face, Brendan Gleeson. It is an epic play about the power of story telling. On a stormy night, four local men gather in an isolated pub in rural Ireland. Their usual banter and everyday lives are disrupted by the arrival of a woman called Valerie as they try to impress her with their stories.
