The Dominion Theatre first opened in October 1929, having been built on the old Horse Shoe Brewery location – the Brewery responsible for the London Beer Flood of 1814. It is well known for its Art Deco style and is a Grade II listed building. The Theatre became well known in the 1980s as a popular location for music events and concerts. Various singers, including Dolly Parton, have performed at the theatre, with Dolly releasing a televised performance of her 1983 Concert from the Dominion.
The Dominion Theatre has been subject to extensive renovation in recent years, with the total capacity having been increased to a total of 2,182. Having retained many of its art deco features, including the original 1920s light fittings, it has become an admired and respected theatre over the years.
