Starlight Express is extending in London! Andrew Lloyd Webber’s unique musical, currently playing at the Wembley Park Theatre, is now booking until October 2025.
Starlight Express is a musical written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Richard Stilgoe. It first debuted in 1984 at the Apollo Victoria Theatre, the current home of Wicked, where it ran there until 2002. This makes it the ninth longest-running West End show. It is also the most successful musical ever in Germany. There it has been performed in a purpose-built theatre since 1988 and holds the Guinness World Record for most visitors to a musical in a single theatre.
The musical is about a child’s train set that comes to life. The trains compete to become the fastest engine in the world. It follows a young steam engine named Rusty, who races against modern locomotives of diesel and electric engines. Famously, the actors perform on roller skates.

The revival at the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre opened in Summer 2024. Directed by Luke Sheppard (The Little Big Things, &Juliet), the Starlight Auditorium is specifically designed for the show. At this production, the audience has the option to sit around or inside the ‘racing track’. They can also choose more conventional rake seating behind the performance space.
The Creatives
In addition to Andrew Lloyd Webber and Richard Stilgoe, the creative team for this production includes set designer Tim Hatley (Back to the Future), costume designer Gabriella Slade (Six), and video designer Andrej Goulding. This production sees the return of Arlene Phillips, the original choreographer as creative dramaturg alongside choreographer Ashley Nottingham.
The Cast
The cast of Starlight Express includes Jeevan Braich as Rusty, Kayna Montecillo as Pearl, and Jade Marvin as Momma McCoy. Al Knott as Greaseball, Eve Humphrey as Dinah, and Tom Pigram as Electra.
Alongside them are Jamie Addison, Jessie Angell, Ollie Augustin, Charles Butcher, Renz Cardenas, Catherine Cornwall, Jamie Cruttenden, Kelly Downing, Isaac Edwards, Asher Forth, Sam Gallacher, Lucy Glover, Pablo Gómez Jones, Scott Hayward, Lilianna Hendy, Dante Hutchinson, Lewis Kidd, Hannah Kiss, Oscar Kong, Emily Martinez, Deearna Mclean, Marianthe Panas, David Peter-Brown, Harrison Peterkin, RED, Bethany Rose-Lythgoe, Charlie Russell, Gary Sheridan, Jessica Vaux, Jaydon Vijn, Lara Vina Uzcatia, and Ashlyn Weekes. The young actors are Shaniyah Abrahams, Cristian Buttaci, Barnaby Halliwell, and Mimi Soetan.

It’s wonderful to already be announcing our fourth extension and we look forward to welcoming many more audiences into the Starlight auditorium.”
They have also announced that they will be releasing a cast album on 8 November.
