The Savoy Theatre have confirmed that Paddington the Musical will premiere at their venue later this year. The new musical is set to open on 1st November 2025 so pack your marmalade sandwiches and head to the West End!
The show will be based on the much loved book series written by Micheal Bond and subsequent film series. The show will follow the bear’s journey from Peru to London in his search for somewhere to call home.
Paddington the Musical has been in development for 2 years. Frontman of McFly, Tom Fletcher is witting the music for this new show. Although Fletcher wouldn’t give away how or in what form Paddington would appear on stage he said it was pure “theatrical magic”. Regarding writing the show he did say this:
“This unique and special bear is at the very heart of our nation… I’m aware of the awesome responsibility we all have in taking on his story. It’s beyond exciting, and an absolute dream come true…”
Directing Paddington the Musical is Luke Sheppard. Sheppard has directed many popular West End shows such as Starlight Express and Just For One Day which is opening at the Shaftesbury Theatre later in May.
Olivier Award winning playwright Jessica Swale will write the book for the show. Swale said it is a priviledge to bring this character to the stage. She also added that:
“Paddington is so much more than a fictional character. This special bear has come to represent hope, kindness and acceptance, so it’s never felt like a more apt time to bring this story to the stage.”
Paddinton the Musical will open 1st November 2025 at the Savoy Theatre.
