The Motive and the Cue (Closes 23rd March)

The Motive and The Cue

The Motive and the Cue transferred to the West End in December last year, following its highly acclaimed, sold-out run at the National Theatre.

Directed by Academy Award, Tony Award, and Golden Globe winner Sam Mended (The Lehman Trilogy) and based on the making of Richard Burton and John Gielgud’s ‘Hamlet’ on Broadway, this play was celebrated as a ‘love letter to theatre’ by the Evening Standard. Written by Jack Thorne (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) this fierce and funny play offers a glimpse into the politics of a rehearsal room and the relationship between art and the celebrity.

The show follows the story of Richard Burton, newly married to Elizabeth Taylor and playing the title role in a new production of Hamlet directed by John Gielgud. But during the rehearsal process, two ages of heater collide and the collaboration between actor and director soon threatens to unravel.

The Motive and the Cue comes to a close at the Noel Coward Theatre on 23rd March. Book your tickets now!
