Theatre Royal Drury Lane is one of the most beautiful but also the oldest in London! Being a royal theatre there’s no surprise is so opulent. There has been a theatre on this site since 1663. It was built during the Restoration period under the commission of King Charles II. However, the building as you see it today is from a reconstruction from 1812. Although the venue looks as though it has been there since ancient times, it is in fact less than 100 years old. It was built but Rowena Cade who moved to Cornwall following the first world war. She hand built the theatre in the cliffside along with her gardener. In 1929, she produced her first production in the valley, before the venue bloomed and dressing rooms we added in the 50s.

In the 1970s he set out to build a reconstruction of Shakespeare’s original Globe on the site. He founded the Shakespeare Globe Trust in 1971 with a mission to recreate the 1599 amphitheatre as accurately as he possibly could.
