Casting Announced for MJ the Musical

The hugely anticipated musical MJ the Musical is opening in March and the full cast list has just been announced.

As previously confirmed, Myles Frost, who originated the role of Michael Jackson in New York and for which he won the Tony Award® for Best Actor in a Musical, will bring his star-making performance to the West End.

He will be joined by Ashley Zhangazha as Joseph Jackson / Rob, Mitchell Zhangazha as Michael, Philippa Stefani as Rachel, Phebe Edwards as Katherine Jackson / Kate, Matt Mills as Berry Gordy / Nick, Rohan Pinnock-Hamilton as Tito Jackson / Quincy Jones, Matt Gonsalves as Alejandro, Jon Tsouras as Dave, Kieran Alleyne as MJ Alternate & Standby for Michael, Kwamé Kandekore Standby for MJ & Michael.

The full cast will include Derek Aidoo, Morgan Baulch, Milan Cacacie, Spencer Darlaston-Jones, Hanna Dimtsu, Aden Dzuda, Marie Finlayson, Christopher Gopaul, Kalisha Johnson, Grace Kanyamibwa, Travis Kerry, Dianté Lodge, Simeon Montague, George Ross, Lydia Sterling, Toyan Thomas-Browne, Taylor Walker, Charlotte-Kate Warren and Tavio Wright.

MJ will also introduce Jaydon Eastman, Elliot Mugume, Ethan Sokontwe, and Dylan Trigger as Little Michael, Cristiano Cuino, Sekhani Dumezweni, Khanya Madaka, and Aidan Oti as Little Marlon.

MJ the Musical offers a rare insight into the creative and collaborative spirit that catapulted Michael Jackson to his legendary status. The musical takes place in the rehearsal rooms of the 1992 Dangerous World Tour and features all of the iconic hits that made the tour one of the best of all time.

MJ the musical opens at the Prince Edward Theatre on 6th March 2024. Keep an eye out for further announcements!

Casting Announced for Next to Normal

The critically acclaimed musical Next to Normal made its long-awaited UK premiere last year at the Donmar Warehouse where it played to sold-out audiences every night. The show is now transferring to the West End this Summer for a strictly limited run.

The musical explores themes of family, illness, loss, and grief told through powerful rock music. The full cast for the West End run has just been announced and all the company previously starred in the run at the Donmar. The cast includes Caissie Levy (Frozen) as Diana Goodman, Trevor Dion Nicholas (Hamilton) as Dr Madden/Dr Fine, Jack Ofrecio (From Here to Eternity) as Henry, WhatsOnStage Award winner Jamie Parker (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) as Dan, Jack Wolfe (Shadow and Bone) as Gabe and Worthington-Cox (The Secret Life of Bees) as Natalie. All of the company also starred in the Donmar run.

Next to Normal opens at the Wyndham’s Theatre on 18th June 2024 where is will run for 14 weeks.

The first production images have been released for the London premiere of Cruel Intentions: The 90s Musical.

Based on the 1999 cult classic by Roger Kumble, this musical version received brilliant reviews during its Edinburgh Fringe run in 2019.

The musical stars Josh Barnett (Newsies) as Blaine Tuttle/Court Reynolds, Daniel Bravo (Witness For The Prosecution) as Sebastian Valmont, Jess Buckby (42nd Street) as Mrs Bunny Caldwell/Dr Greenbaum, Abbie Budden (PeterPan) as Annette Hargrove, Rose Galbraith (Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends) as Cecile Caldwell/Marci Greenbaum, Nickcolia King-N’Da (Caucasian Chalk Circle) as Ronald Clifford, Rhianne-Louise McCaulsky (Six) as Kathryn Merteuil and Barney Wilkinson (Bonnie and Clyde)as Greg.

Full casting announced for Standing at the Sky’s Edge

Standing at the Sky's Edge

Hailed as a ‘love letter to Sheffield’ Standing at the Sky’s Edge is a new musical that follows three generations over the course of six decades. With a book by Chris Bush and songs by Richard Hawley, the show won the Award for ‘Best New Musical’ at the Olivier Awards last year after its run at the National Theatre.

Standing at the Sky’s Edge tickets are available now.

The complete cast for the London run has just been announced. As we already know joining the cast for the West End transfer will be Elizabeth Ayodele (Small Island) as Joy, Joel Harper-Jackson (Cock) as Harry, Sharlene Hector (A Strange Loop) as Grace, Mel Lowe (Orlando) as Connie, Laura Pitt-Pulford (Seven Brides for Seven Brothers) as Poppy and Lauryn Redding (Bloody Elle) as Nikki.

Returning to the show and reprising their roles are Samuel Jordan (Masters of the Air) as Jimmy, Baker Mukasa (The Comedy of Errors) as George, Alastair Natkiel (Line of Duty) as Marcus, and Rachael Wooding (Pretty Woman: The Musical) as Rose.

Completing the company will be Jonathan Andre (The Lion King) as Max, Jonathon Bentley (From Here to Eternity) as Gary, Mya Fox-Scott (making her professional debut) as Jenny, Rachael Louise Miller (Les Misérables) as Cathy, Adam Price (Privates on Parade) as Charles, Nicola Sloane (Backstairs Billy) as Vivienne, Lillie-Pearl Wildman (Sunset Boulevard) as Justine and David McKechnie (Flowers for Mrs Harris) as Joe/Workman.

Also joining the cast are Monique Ashe-Palmer, Adam Colbeck-Dunn, Viquichele Cross, Jamie Doncaster, Caroline Fitzgerald, Jerome Lincoln, Sean McLevy and Karen Wilkinson.

Mrs Doubtfire extends to 2025

Mrs Doubtfire Tickets

Based on the iconic film the Mrs Doubtfire musical has taken the West End by storm. It has been announced that the show has been extended in London until February 2025.

Mrs Doubtfire musical tickets are on sale now.

With original music and lyrics by Wayne Kirkpatrick and Karey Kirkpatrick and a book by Karey Kirkpatrick and John O’Farrell (Something Rotten!), this musical comedy is not to be missed.

Full cast announced for Plaza Suite

Starring two-time Tony Award winner Matthew Broderick and two-time Emmy Award winner Sarah Jessica Parker, Plaza Suite is coming to London this month.

After a record-breaking run on Broadway and becoming the third highest grossing play revival in Broadway history, Plaza Suite transfers to the West End. Neil Simon’s razor-sharp comedy is sure to be just as successful over here in the UK.

Joining the two leads will be Rohit Gokani as The Waiter, Charlie Oscar as Jean McCormack / Mimsey Hubley and Eric Sirakian as Bellhop / Boden Eisler. Take a look at these new shots from the rehearsal room of Cruel Intentions: The 90s Musical. The London premiere of the show is at the Other Palace Theatre in Victoria and opens on 11th January.

Cruel Intentions: The 90s Musical is based on the 1999 cult movie by Roger Kumble, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Reese Witherspoon, Ryan Phillippe and Selmar Blair, the show is created by Jordan Ross, Lindsey Rosin and Kumble.

The musical features a musical score of some of the 90s greatest hits. Featuring songs such as Natalie Imbruglia’s ‘Torn, The Verve’s ‘Bittersweet Symphony’, R.E.M’s ‘Losing My Religion’, Christina Aguilera’s ‘Genie in a Bottle’ and TLC’s ‘No Scrubs plus many more!

The Picture of Dorian Gray

The ground-breaking production of The Picture of Dorian Gray returns to London next month starring Golden Globe winner Sarah Snook.

This witty and contemporary version of Oscar Wilde’s classic tale is adapted and directed by multi-award winning Director Kip Williams. The Picture of Dorian Gray uses interplay of live performance and video to create this astonishing production.

The Picture of Dorian Gray will open at the Theatre Royal Haymarket on 6th February 2024 for a strictly limited 14-week run.

The Merchant of Venice (Opens 15th February)

The Merchant of Venice

Hailed by the Telegraph as ‘The year’s most important Shakespeare production’, this thrilling new adaptation of The Merchant of Venice comes to the West End next month.

Starring Tracy-Ann Oberman (EastEnders/ Doctor Who) as Shylock, this timely reimagining of one of the bard’s greatest comedies is set to be directed by Brigid Larmour. This version of the play will be set in 1936 London as is set to be a huge hit.

With the city on the brink of political unrest, fascism sweeping across Europe and Oswald Mosley’s British Union of Fascists threatening a paramilitary march through the Jewish East End, strong-willed single mother Shylock runs a pawnbroking business from her house in Cable Street where Mosley will march. When charismatic, antisemitic aristocrat Antonio comes to her for a loan, a high-stakes deal is struck. Will Shylock take her revenge, and who will pay the ultimate price?

Starring alongside Tracy-Ann Oberman is Raymond Coulthard in the roles of Antonio and Arragon, Hannah Morrish as Portia, Gavin Fowler as Bassanio, Jessica Dennis as Mary and Nerissa, Grainne Dromgoole as Jessica, Xavier Starr as Gratiano, Alex Zur as Yuval/The Duke/Balthasar/Blackshirt (member of the British Union of Fascists), and Nancy Farino as Stefania/Blackshirt (member of the British Union of Fascists) .

Long Day’s Journey Into Night (Opens 19th March)

Long Days into Night

Thought of as one of the greatest American plays of the 20th century, Eugene O’Neill’s Long Day’s Journey Into Night opens in London in Spring 2024.

The play is set to star Emmy and Golden Globe winning actors Brian Cox and Patricia Clarkson make their return to the West End. They are joined by Anthony Boyle, Daryl McCormack and Louisa Harland.

The Pulitzer Prize-winning play follows the story of the Tyrone family one summer say and is based on the writer’s own dysfunctional family. Long Day’s Journey Into Night is a tale of love, hate, family, betrayal and addiction. Hadestown

Hadestown first came to London in 2028 and had a hugely successful run at the National Theatre. The show was also a huge hit on Broadway, winning 8 Tony Awards including the award for Best New Musical. Mean Girls

The smash-hit musical adaptation of the 2004 chick flick is transferring to the West End after a hugely successful run over on Broadway.

Mean Girls the Musical tickets are on sale now.

Based on the blockbuster film Mean the Musical follows the story of Cady Heron, a student who relocates from the African savanna to a dangerous place called high school. There she encounters a clique known as the plastics who are the resident ‘mean girls. 20 years after the original release of the film Mean Girls still continues its legacy with fans still quoting the iconic film daily. We are sure the musical will be just as popular.

The musical is written by Tina Fey with music by acclaimed composer Jeff Richmond and lyrics by Nell Benjamin.

Another hugely popular chick-flick is coming to the West End in musical form later next year. The Devil Wears Prada musical is strutting into the Dominion theatre in October.

The musical is based on the 2006 blockbuster film (starring Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep) and the best-selling novel written by Lauren Weisberger published in 2003. With an original score by music legend Elton John, lyrics by Shania Taub, book by Kate Wetherhead and direction and choreography by the iconic Jerry Mitchell.

CRUEL INTENTIONS: THE 90S MUSICAL (OPENS 11th January)

Cruel Intentions: The 90s musical is coming to London! Playing at the Other Palace Theatre in Victoria the show will run for a strictly limited 14-week season. 

Based on the hit 1999 Hollywood film which has become a cult classic, the musical version has already been a smash-hit in New York and Los Angeles and now we’re finally getting to experience the show in London.

The story follows step-siblings Sebastian Valmont and Kathryn Merteuil who are pretty awful people. Kathryn makes a bet with Sebastian that he can’t seduce the headmaster’s daughter, Annette. The manipulative pair set out to destroy this innocent girl but when Sebastian starts to actually fall for her, things get complicated and lead to explosive results. 

The musical features a musical score of some of the 90s greatest hits. Featuring songs such as Natalie Imbruglia’s ‘Torn, The Verve’s ‘Bittersweet Symphony’, R.E.M’s ‘Losing My Religion’, Christina Aguilera’s ‘Genie in a Bottle’ and TLC’s ‘No Scrubs plus many more!

The musical is set to star Daniel Bravo as Sebastian Valmont, Abbie Budden as Annette Hargrove, Rose Galbraith as Cecile Caldwell/Marci Greenbaum and Rhianne-Louise McCaulsky as Kathryn Merteuil.

Ian McKellen to star in Players Kings

Plyers Kings

Adapted by Robert Icke from the Shakespeare classics Henry IV Parts 1 and 2, Players Kings is set to open at the Noel Coward Theatre in April next year. The play will be directed by Icke himself and will star Ian McKellen as John Falstaff.

The play brings together two of Shakespeare’s iconic historic play and tells the story of the turbulent reign of Henry IV set in a divided England in 1403. The Players Kings builds towards a climax of the Battle of Shrewsbury when Henry IV struggles to keep his claim to the throne as a group of rebel noblemen plot to overthrow him. It also portrays the adventures of Prince Hal and John Falstaff as they spend many a drunken night in the pubs of London whilst struggling with the pressures of Kingship.

The production is set to have previews at the New Wimbledon Theatre and the Manchester Opera House in March before heading to the West End. Players Kings will open at the Noel Coward Theatre on 1st April 2024 where it will play for a strictly limited 12-week season, closing on 22nd June 2024.

The Olivier Award winning play For Black Boys Who Have Considered Suicide When The Hue Gets Too Heavy is returning to the West End next year following the shows previous three sold-out runs. The production had its original run at the New Diorama Theatre before transferring to the Royal Court Theatre and then finally landing its West End run at the Apollo Theatre.

The play was nominated for Best New Play and Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the 2023 Olivier Awards. Inspired by the work of Ntozake Shange for colored girls who have considered suicide the play tells the story of six young Black men who meet for group therapy and let their imaginations run wild. A performance full of music, movement, beautiful storytelling and verse For Black Boys is not to be missed.

Originally created by Ryan Calais Cameron who conceived the idea after the killing of Trayvon Martin in 2012 the play has been developed over the course of a decade with young Black men and mental health groups.

The production will open at the Garrick Theatre from 29th February 2024 and will run until 4th May 2024.

Casting Announced for Opening Night

Sheridan Smith Opening Night

British icon Sheridan Smith is set to star in the dazzling new production of Opening Night next year at the Gielgud Theatre.

Opening Night is a musical based on the 1977 film of the same name that was written and directed by John Cassavetes. The psychological horror film tells the story of an alcoholic stage actress who witnesses the accidental death of one of her fans. She is then haunted by the ghost of the deceased woman, which leads her to a nervous breakdown right before the premiere of her next Broadway play.

Further casting for the show has been announced and joining Sheridan Smith as Myrtle Gordon is Hadley Fraser as Manny Victor, Shira Haas as Nancy Stein, Amy Lennox as Dorothee Victor, Nicola Hughes as Sarah Goode and John Marquez as David Samuels.

With a book by Ivo Van Hove (A Little Life) and music and lyrics by songwriter Rufus Wainwright, this new musical is set to be a hit.

The nominees for the annual WhatsOnStage awards have just been revealed and leading the way is the Bridge Theatre’s revival of Guys & Dolls, which has received an outstanding 12 nominations.

Jamie Lloyd’s new interpretation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s classic musical Sunset Boulevard has managed to rack up 9 nominations including ‘Best Musical Revival’. The iconic musical is currently starring the sensational Nicole Scherzinger as Norma Desmond and has been nominated for ‘Best Performer in a Musical’ for her take on the character.
