Cabaret One of London’s most talked about musicals

Cabaret London theatre play

After winning a record-breaking SEVEN Olivier Awards including Best Musical Revival, Cabaret tickets are proving to be the hottest tickets in London. The question is why?

Where did it all begin?
In May 2021 it was announced that the iconic musical Cabaret was getting a West End revival and it was set to star Eddie Redmayne as Emcee and Jessie Buckley as Sally Bowles. The production entitled Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club began previews at the West End’s Playhouse Theatre in November 2021. The theatre was completely refurbished to include an in-the-round stage, reduced to a 550-seat capacity with tables that audience members can dine at as well as watch the show.

The production went on to win 7 awards at the 2022 Olivier Awards, setting a record for being the most award-winning revival in Olivier history. It was also the first production ever to win awards in all 4 eligible acting categories. Winning Best Actor, Best Actress, Best supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress in a musical.

What is Cabaret about?
Welcome to the Kit Kat Club.

Cabaret is one of the most successful musicals of all time. The show is set in 1930 Berlin during the twilight of the Jazz Age and the Nazis rise to power. The musical’s main focus is on the hedonistic nightlife at the seedy Kit Kat Club. In a time where the world is changing forever there is a world where everyone can be free. There we see the relationship between American writer Clifford Bradshaw and English cabaret performer Sally Bowles.

What music is in the show?
The musical features an iconic musical score including songs such as Wilkommen, Mein Herr, May This Time, Money and of course the title number… Cabaret!

The music is by John Kander with lyrics by Fred Ebb and book by Joe Masteroff.

Where is the show?
Cabaret is currently playing at the Kit Kat Club itself… well not exactly. London’s Playhouse Theatre has been transformed into the famous Kit Kat Club to truly bring the story to life.

Who is currently starring in the show?

Cabaret Cast

Cabaret currently stars Jake Shears (Scissor Sisters) as Emcee and Rebecca Lucy Taylor (Self Esteem) as Sally Bowles. The show also stars Beverley Klein as Fraulein Schneider. Teddy Kempner as Herr Schultz, Wilf Scolding as Ernst Ludwig and Nathan Ives-Moiha as Clifford Bradshaw.

What makes this show so unique?
Before the show guests are invited to enjoy the club with drinks, dining and even some pre-show entertainment. When booking Cabaret tickets guests will receive a ‘club entry time’ and if you show up at the start time then you are able to enjoy the festivities to the fullest. Audiences are able to truly immerse themselves fully in the world of the show and experience the Kit Kat Club for themselves.

There are a range of dining, drinks and hospitality packages for guests to choose from too including a three-course dinner, champagne packages and even a private room.

So, is it worth all the fuss?

Cabaret theatre tickets really are the hottest around, with the show offering an extremely unique and memorable experience. Cabaret remains one of the most popular shows on the West End and we see why!

Starring Nigel Havers and Patricia Hodge, this sparkling new production of Noel Coward’s Private Lives has been playing in London since August earlier this year.

The immortal comedy originally premiered in 1930 starring Gertrude Lawrence and Coward himself as the leads. The play follows ex-spouses Elyot and Amanda who are honeymooning with their new partners in the fashionable resort of Deauville only to find out that they of course have been booked into adjacent rooms.

Despite their tumultuous past they realise that they are still in love with each other and they decide to elope to Amanda’s flat in Paris but only to continue the verbal altercations that drove them apart in the first place.

This timeless play is witty in its dissection of sex, marriage and monogamy and was almost ahead of its time. This production of Coward’s masterpiece has been staged to mark the 50th anniversary of his death in 1973. Proving that his work still continues to dazzle audiences across the globe.
